TCC Conversation: Helping Students See Relationships Between Courses

Back to all events

12/02/2024
Hybrid: Room 12-201 (Brighton Campus) and on Zoom
12:00 pm - 12:50 pm

We often speak about breaking down "silos" in higher education, usually in the context of the structures of departments and divisions that can impede collaboration or change. But what about the silos that students encounter as they move from class to class? When students move from philosophy to biology to business to algebra (and so on) on a given day, what connections and relevance are they seeing between them?

While students often approach their classes as separate boxes to check off, research shows that understanding cross-disciplinary connections deepens learning. Please join us to discuss how. This conversation will focus on the importance of helping students bridge content and skills across disciplines. Panelists will discuss pedagogical approaches, practical classroom activities, opportunities for learning communities, and techniques for connecting coursework to career paths and real-world scenarios.
